Roller Test Bench

State-of-the-art Roller Test Bench

At EMEC-Prototyping, innovation and precision are at the heart of our work in the test center for electric mobility test systems. Our state-of-the-art roller test bench is specially designed to test and optimize the performance and safety of e-bikes, e-scooters and other electric mobility vehicles under realistic conditions. This type of test bench is essential for development and quality assurance in the mobility industry as it provides precise data on performance, efficiency and safety features.

What is the Roller Test Bench?

The roller test bench is a highly specialized test facility designed primarily to evaluate the drivetrain and braking performance of vehicles under controlled laboratory conditions in the test center without having to physically move. This innovative Hil test simulates real-world driving conditions under various driving conditions and loads by allowing vehicles to be operated stationary while their wheels rotate on a series of rollers.

Measurements on the Roller Test Bench

The roller test bench is versatile and can be used for various tests and measurements in the field of electromobility. Our test center offers the necessary prerequisites for adapting the test system to your individual requirements. The measurements listed below represent an exemplary selection of the wide range of vehicle parameters that can be recorded by the chassis dynamometer:

The roller test bench makes it possible to test a wide variety of vehicle types, such as scooters and e-bikes, under different load conditions. For example, measuring maximum motor power and efficiency under simulated driving conditions helps developers optimize energy use and increase overall performance.

A key aspect of vehicle development is understanding dynamic behavior, including acceleration, braking performance, and handling. The roller bench test provides the ability to test these characteristics in a controlled environment at the test center by replicating realistic driving conditions. This is particularly valuable in prototyping, where adjustments and optimizations can be made based on precise data.

The ability to simulate different environmental conditions is another key feature of advanced testing systems. From extreme temperatures to varying humidity levels, the chassis dynamometer can examine how vehicles behave under different climatic conditions. These tests are essential to ensure that vehicles perform reliably even under demanding conditions.

With the increasing complexity of electrical and electronic systems in modern vehicles, testing these components is an important part of the testing process. The roller test bench enables the detailed analysis of electric motors, battery systems, and control units, including the evaluation of CAN protocols.

EMEC's Innovative Roller Test Bench

EMEC-Prototyping develops and supplies customized roller test bench solutions that are tailored to the individual requirements of our customers. A wide range of testing options are available in our test center during all product development phases, from the concept and prototyping to the final phase. These include, for example, the innovative modular roller test bench for electric vehicles, which was specially designed for standard-compliant testing by the eKFV (Small Electric Vehicles Ordinance). This test system makes it possible to test critical parameters such as the maximum permissible speed, power consumption, or braking behavior in compliance with standards and ensure that the vehicles meet all legal requirements. Our Hil test benches complement these offerings by enabling realistic simulation and testing of vehicle control systems under different operating conditions.

Our modular plug-and-play system, based on the latest industrial control technology, enables flexible adaptation to different vehicle types and test requirements. We offer a variety of test benches that cover a wide range of standardized tests, including the R200 range test for pedelecs limited to a top speed of 25 km/h and the WMTC test for all vehicle classes up to 45 km/h. Additionally, our facilities are equipped for specially adapted tests for electric cars, focusing on battery life and efficiency across different temperatures. The challenge of the WMTC lies in its dynamic profile with frequent acceleration and deceleration, which requires test benches with high performance and control dynamics. By integrating our highly dynamic servo system, these requirements can be precisely simulated - further information can be found in the download area.

Our innovative clamping system also allows different vehicles to be prepared for testing within minutes, making the transition between different test configurations seamless and time-efficient. This flexibility is particularly valuable in a dynamic development process where different vehicle models need to be tested quickly and easily.

Detailed and precise data acquisition forms the backbone of our test processes. Depending on the test order, physical variables such as voltage, current consumption, or temperature behavior can be recorded, enabling a thorough analysis of the vehicle systems under different operating conditions. Depending on customer requirements, the entire CAN protocol can also be recorded.
